Independent School Association Resources

The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) is a nonprofit membership association that provides services to more than 1,800 schools and associations of schools in the United States and abroad. 

The New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) is a voluntary association of 196 independent nursery, elementary, and secondary schools enrolling over 83,000 students. It is affiliated with the National Association of Independent Schools and the New York State Coalition for Independent and Religious Schools. The association has established a number of support mechanisms for New York independent schools including the evaluation and accreditation of member schools, professional learning opportunities for faculty, administrators, and trustees, and advocacy for independent education. 

The Atlanta Area Association of Independent Schools (AAAIS) is a professional association of over 70 private-independent schools in the Atlanta metro area that promotes the highest standards and best administrative practices for the benefit of its schools and the families and students they serve. 

AIMS is an association of 120 independent schools in Maryland and the District of Columbia. These schools serve more than 45,000 students in grades PK-12. AIMS' mission is to support its member schools by providing professional development workshops and conferences, through rigorous and effective accreditation services, and through public advocacy that protects their independence from governmental regulation.

Independent School Management (ISM) was established in 1975 as an advisory letter for Heads, Trustees, and other key managers. ISM has grown in response to the needs of the independent school community. It provides creative strategies by combining extensive research, proven management techniques, and personalized services to advance school leadership.

The Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) is a membership organization of more than 235 independent schools from 13 states of the Midwest region. ISACS leads schools to pursue exemplary independent education. Its vision is to empower students to contribute and thrive in a diverse and changing world. Its services include an accreditation program, professional development opportunities, consulting services, resources and information, and a strong collegial community.

BoardSource supports, trains, and educates nonprofit leaders from across the country and throughout the world. BoardSource provides leaders with an extensive range of tools, resources, and research data to increase board effectiveness and strengthen organizational impact. It also serves as a national voice for inspired and effective board leadership.
